“Lady Lazarus”

Project made for the contest “Marriage Stories”, in Galeria Campo&Campo in Antwerp.

"Lady Lazarus", Is a beautiful poem written by Sylvia Plath, about her suicide attempts and the feeling of anger and despair. "The Suicide Bride" story, also explores this darkness inside us, and the feeling of emptiness and sadness that we feel after we have been wronged by someone, or ourselves, or just like Sylvia Plath says, "Mr. Enemy".

To translate these feelings into wearable art I implemented the elements of the story into pieces in the form of details such as the rope, to symbolise the way she chose to unalive herself, the color red transmits anger, but also love, and a veil with "horns", that in a very literal way represents how she was cheated. To balance all of these elements and bring a sense of the tradition of marriage, the white, the lace, and the veil are recreated and still present.
